Yes! Pylon were the best. One of the only US bands to capture the raw abrasive funk style of postpunk that folks in the UK were doing at the time.
If you like funky postpunk like Gang of Four, Mo-Dettes, Delta 5, etc, you will probably love Pylon. They took that shit and made it their own in the best way.
This is pretty awesome. I don’t think I’ve heard any big boys stuff before but I’m gonna check out more now.
The Pop Group - She is beyond good and evil (video)
Classic 80s noisy dub influenced post punk, best of it’s kind beside PiL and the Slits.
Grauzone - Eisbaer (video)
Good 80s post punk / Neu Deutsche Welle jams featuring 80s babes awkwardly dancing around a fog machine (the best kind of dancing).
The Blackouts - Young Man
Sparse intense post punk jams from Seattle, seemingly sometime in the 80s. Sounds a little like Metal Box era Public Image Limited, good stuff. Up front sax sqeals and manic as fuck vocals. Will try to check out more from these folks. I guess most of this band became members of Ministry later on.
Mydolls - Soldiers of a pure war
Mydolls were an great 80s post-punk band from Texas, though their English accents and musical style definitely made me first think they were from the UK. Good solid post punk jams, all their songs were a bit different but jagged riffs, strong vocals and gothy polyrhythms are a staple in most of their songs.
Video of Nan Goldin talking about her life and art, with her work playing the the background. She talks about addiction, queer culture in the 70s/80s, AIDS, and other stuff. Not sure what this is from but it’s interesting stuff.
Whoa, this is great. Not much info on this person, they apparently just released a “7 in the 80s and were in a band called Heavy Manners. This is NOT the folk singer of the same name!
Really good stuff, poppy new wave but with enough of a weirdo post punk vibe that I can dig it.
Dogma Probe - 13 (live) 1986
Dogma Probe were a really interesting post punk band out of LA in the 80s. They were a blend of off kilter almost mathrock / no waveish jagged compositions with more deathrock / dark punk kinda jams. Really interesting stuff!
Rip City skates introduces the new Raymond Pettibon skateboards for 1984
GIMME GIMME GIMME
I was watching this the other night, it’s a cool little vid. I love the guy in the mask and the pitch effect they used on his voice. I have 0 interest in skateboards or skate culture, but I have 100% love for Pettibon, so this is interesting.
